EXPORT figures for January were well up on those for the comparable period last year, both in respect of units shipped and total value. The units numbered 11,893 (9,626), valued at t7,223,318 (£6,290,296).
The average weekly output during January was 5,013 units, the total production for the month being 20,055. of which 9,862 were for export and 10.193 for the home market. Goods vehicles. road haulage tractors and special types totalled 19,362, of which 11.269 were tinder 15 cwt. carrying capacity, 6,612 from 15 cwt. to 6 tons and 1,481 over 6 tons.
In the same period, 635 passenger vehicles were produced, 511 being single-deck and 122 double-deck motorbuses and two were trolleybuses. Battery-electric output was 58.
The figure of 11,893 for export excludes dumpers and industrial trucks. but they are included in the value figure as shown in the table. In addition to the items shown in this table, 366 used commercial vehicles valued at £110,534 were exported, as well as 8.619 tractors (£3.859.010) and parts and accessories to the value of 0.439,294.
UNUSUAL MOBILE INQUIRY BUREAU
1--V A MOBILE inquiry bureau of an
unusual design has been placed in service by Maidstone and District Motor Services, Ltd. Built on a framework of tubular metal with back and end pieces formed of sheet metal, the bureau is constructed as an annexe to one of the company's new LeylandRoyal Tiger-Harrington 37-seat coaches. Running the full length of the vehicle, the annexe is covered by a red and white canvas canopy.
A tubular mast at each end fits into brackets on the side of the coach, and two projecting brackets fixed to the frame at the bottom of the structure are held securely by the wheels of the vehicle. The whole can be erected or dismantled in a short time, and can be carried inside the coach. Posters and maps arc mounted on the panels of the annexe.
