Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Two New Overtype Vans Have Capacities of 1,000 cubic ft. and 1,250 cubic ft. Based on Fordson 2-ton Chassis, These Useful Outfits Weigh Under 50 cwt.

FOR some years, the Lawson Overtype van has been :a popular choice among operators requiring a big-capacity machine for light but bulky loads, and the maker—Wallace Carr and Co., Ltd., Acre Lane, Brixton, London, S.W.2— has now introduced two new models which incorporate a number of improvements. The standard machine has as its basis the Fordson 2-ton forward-control chassis, and it is fitted with a Baico 3-ft. middle extension, giving a wheelbase of 12 ft. 10 ins,

The two models differ only in the height, the larger machine having a height of 9 ft., which gives a capacity of 1,250 cubic ft., whilst the smaller van has a height of 8 ft. and the capacity works out at 1,040 cubic ft. Other leading dimensions are:—Length behind the driver, 16 ft.; width, 7 ft. 2 ins.; loading height, 2 ft. 10 ins.; length of tailboard. 3 ft. or 4 ft. to choice.

Both models weigh under 50 cwt. unladen; they are thus subject to a tax Of £30, and have a legal speed of 30 m.p.h. The prices are 4305 and £315 respectively, £15 extra being charged for painting; a good range of colours is available. The body is strongly framed and flitch plates add to the strength of the lower section. The panelling up to the waist rail is of steel sheets, whilst the upper part is covered in canvas impregnated with white lead, stretched on threeply and mounted on steam-bent ash hoops.

Despite the low loading height, the wheel-arch boxes are reasonably small and a big floor space is available for bulky loads. A waterproof sheet fills the gap between the top of the tailboard and the roof of the body. Increased driving vision is provided by the redesigning of the cab, and heavy windscreen pillars, which obscure the view, have been eliminated by the provision of two light pillars on each side with small windows between them.

The cab is well finished and ample room is provided for the driver and an attendant. An inspection of one of these machines showed it to be soundly constructed, whilst, despite the generous dimensions, the appearance is neat and well balanced. • Incidentally, the Wallace Carr concern is one of the leading London distributors for Fordson commercial vehicles, and it has recently spent some £5,000 on extensions to its service station and on modern equipment. The company offers quick service facilities for Fordson machines and a big stock of spares is held for all normal requirements.
