Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

ARECENT development in fuel-supply systems is the engiim-driven pump sold by the AC.-Sphinx Sparking Plug Co., Ltd., Bradford Street, Birmingham. In this design a spring-loaded anti bears on a special eccentric on the engine camshaft and pulls downwards on articulated link which operates a springt-loaded diaphragm. This sets up a vacuum above the diaphragm and fuel

is thus drawn from the tank through a non-return valve and filter integral with the pump into the upper chamber of the body 'f the device. A spring pushes up the diaphragm so soon as the' link rises, and the fuel, is driven through a non-return valve into the carburetter float chamber.

When the fuel level in the carburetter is at its maximum the float shuts off the needle valve, thus creating back pressure in the pump chamber. This pressure holds the diaphragm out of action until the carburetter requires more fuel. The piston stroke of the pump is at all times proportional to the fuel requirements, and as its travel is only a few thousandths of an inch its life should be a very long one. This pump is used On 21 makes of vehicle.
