Yes, you read that correctly. Out of all the groups that could have been voted top of the list, this lot clinched it, if for no other reason than because, frankly, our drivers think they shouldn’t be on the roads at all. “Why do they have to drive half a mile when they could quite easily walk that?” cries Alex Dixon in despair. “Unless I’m delivering to a school, I go early so I miss them,” says Brian Skinner, before adding: “Well, hopefully I do...” “It’s the double parking, blocking everything off, with no consideration for other people trying to get to work,” sighs Chris Wootton, and Paul Everett concurs. “But there’d be less of a parking issue if those who didn’t need to drive walked instead. There’s a lass down the road from us drives her son and the school’s in the same village. It’s just ridiculous.” Lawrence Baldock says: “It’s two miles to the nearest school where I live, so in rural areas they’ve got no other choice, especially when public transport’s so bad.” But Harry Brown points out: “We were never taken to school, we were made to walk. And in winter we used to have to wear luminous armbands.” Considering he’s a County Durham man, you can bet that a decent coat and a pair of wellies came into the equation as well!
