Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

THE LAUNCH of a national police squad dedicated to fighting truck crime is likely to be delayed by a shake-up of police forces across England and Wales, Bob Quick, the original champion of the idea, had hoped the squad could begin co-ordinating work against organised criminal gangs early next year (CM 2 June). But D/Spt Bill Goreham of the National Centre for Policing Excellence says: "I think that is optimistic simply because we have this review of the 43 forces."

Home Secretary Charles Clarke announced this review last week.

Support for the squad may also lose momentum because Quick, Chief Constable of Surrey Police, has just given up leadership of the Association of Chief Police Officers' vehicle crime section and the Joint Action Group on Lorry Theft.

Goreham adds that the squad will require considerable planning: "We are looking for agreement to put a business case together."

If launched, it is likely to be based alongside Truck Pol.
