The cream of Irish operators will be rewarded this weekend when the winners of the Irish Road Haulage Association Road Transport Awards 2005 are announced at a glittering night in Dublin.

The Irish industry's finest will gather this Saturday,1 October, in Dublin's City West Hotel to hear the results of the I RHA Road Transport Awards 2005, One operator will carry off the ultimate accolade of Haulier of the Year 2005, joining the six other operators who have been honoured with this title since the competition's inception in 1999.

The overall winner is chosen from the six category winners spanning the cream of Ireland's national and international fleets, both large and small. In addition, two awards for Special Merit and for IRHA Council Member of the Year will recognise the contribution made by selfless individuals with the industry's best interests at heart.

The awards will be presented by IrishTV personality Michael Sheridan. J unior Transport Minister Ivor Callely will offer a progress report on the IRHA/government Joint Action Plan, launched in the spring with the aim of tackling the industry's problems (CM 14 April). Finally, IRHA president Vincent Caulfield will address the audience and the evening's many sponsors.

The main sponsors are: Commercial Motor. which has sponsored the awards since they began,communications firm 02 and accountancy firm Dempsey Mullen.
