• Bodybuilder Lawrence David of Peterborough has built step-frame curtain-sided semi-trailers with slide-back roofs for Plyglass, to transport sheets of laminated glass.
The trailers are 4.73m, high; the four tallest models have step-down decks giving an interior height of 3.3m. The sliding roof allows heavy packages of glass to be loaded or unloaded by crane; the header rail slides along with the folding flexible roof so that a crane can swing a hanging load straight through the rear doorway and stop anywhere down the trailer. Fully opening side curtains allow other loads of glass to be handled from the sides by mobile cranges or fork-lift trucks.
Glass is stacked on Aframes: the bigger sheets are clamped to the floor by bolts and Lawrence David Armoursheet curtains, reinforced with pre-stretched polyester straps to supply extra security for the fragile cargo. Air suspension on tandem-axle York chassis is specified to give a gentle ride for the glass.
