Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Iveco Ford is to offer the turbocharged and chargecooled Curnrnins 6BTA 5.9litre engine in a range of 4x2 Cargo models at 12, 12.5, 13.7, 16.8 and 17 tonnes.

The 6BTA power unit, built at Cummin's Darlington plant, develops 126.5kW (170hp) at 2,500rpm and has a maximum torque of 602Nm (444Ibft) at 1, 500rpm.

Despite its smaller capacity, the 6BTA is more flexible than the superseded vee-eight models — it produces 3.7% more power and 15.6% more torque.

Its cast-iron block has a deep skirt for maximum rigidity and the number of components has been kept to a minimum by adopting a linerless construction and by integrating the oil pump, water pump, oil cooler housing, oil filter head and alternator mounting with the block.

The cross-flow head has two valves per cylinder with helical inlet ports. At the bottom end a heavy forged-steel crankshaft, with induction-hardened fillets, is supported by crank journals with larger-thanaverage bearing areas.

A butterfly-type exhaust brake is standard in all models.

Homologation to EEC84/424 is achieved with a drive-by noise level of 83dB(A) without the use of chassis-mounted noise shielding. Instead the Cargos rely on polyurathane foam insulation below the cab floor.

All models use a hydraulically-assisted 330mindiameter single-plate diaphragm spring clutch, — and ceramic friction material is used for the first time in the Cargo range_ Eaton's six-speed, allsynchromesh 4106 transmission, with a lightweight splitaluminium casing for easy servicing, is specified throughout the range.

A low (9.03:1) gear ratio, matched to a 4.56:1 final drive gives a claimed gradeability of 25.8% at 17 tonnes, while the direct top provides a maximum geared speed of 1051milh (65mph). Faster and slower final-drive ratios, in one of the two Rockwell single-reduction hypoid axles, allow for a range of applications.

Provision for power take-offs is made on the left-hand side and at the rear of the gearbox.

All models are available with sleeper cabs, except for the two shortest tipper models at 16.8 and 17 tonnes.

Wheelbase options remain unchanged, so five can be specified from 3.0'75m to 5.45m for "12", "13", and "14" models, while "16" and "17" models are offered with six wheelbase options, ranging from 3.52m to 6.2m.
