• Motor Panels, the manufacturer and designer of commercial-vehicle cabs, has been bought from its parent company Rubery Owen by CH Industrials for £7.5 million.
Motor Panels builds cabs for the Leyland Dal Roadrunner, Seddon Atkinson's 3-11 and 211 and the Iveco Ford sleepercab Cargo. It is unlikely, however, to manufacture cabs for the new Seddon Atkinson Strato.
The company is based in Coventry and employs 600. Its annual sales are more than £30 million. A division in Wigan, which undertakes specialist conversions on light commercials, incuding the Ford Transit, has a workforce of 200.
CH Industrials, which in
tends to expand Motor Panels, has an annual turnover of more than £150 million and currently employs some 3,300 staff. Rubery Owen's chairman David Owen will stay on the board of Motor Panels in a non-executive role.
