AT PARIS next week, Renault Vehicules lndustriels will be displaying its latest G and Rrange vehicles with specification revisions that will begin to appear on right-handdrive Renaults from next year.
The G260 is now being built in France with an optional highroof version of the standard cab, designated GT. Interior height has been increased by 100mm (4in) above the screen, sloping to 200mm (8in) higher at the rear. The interior trim has been updated on all S. G and C models.
The R310 6x2 which will be exhibited at the Paris Show represents the first phase of a development programme which will eventually include R370 and G260 models.
The trailing axle on the 6x2 is air suspended and can be raised. R310 6x2s will become available in France next spring.
All 14 models in RVI's R range comprising rigids from 17.5 to 26 tonnes gvw and tractive units, with gross combination weights from 35 to 180 tonnes, have undergone some extensive reworking of their brake system. Lining thickness has been increased from 14 to 19mm, frictional area increased and the lining quality changed to give more progressive braking. The new drum castings have been designed to prevent water getting inside them.
Following MAN's example, RVI has also begun to fit SAB automatic slack adjusters as standard on R models and from next year on anti-lock braking system from the DBA (Bendix) group, will be a regular production option on these models. Anti-lock brakes will then be fitted as standard on the FR1 GTS coach and will be an option on all other FR1 coaches.
The B18 splitter version of Renault's own B9 synchromesh gearbox will become available on UK specification R310s from early next year. Other detail changes on the latest R models include a fully enclosed battery case; a separate external fuse for the tachograph; and revised headlamp bezels which make bulb changing easier.
