COMMUNITY bus regulations have been laid before Parliament to implement the provisions in the 1978 Transport Act about Community buses and short-term road service licences and will come into effect November 1.
The Community bus regulations lay down the safety standards with which Community buses and their drivers must comply. They also deal with such matters as the form of the disc to be carried on the vehicle and the application of the existing procedural regulations to the licensing of Community buses.
The Public Service Vehicles (Licences and Certificates Amendment) Regulations deal with the simplified procedure which will apply to the new short-term road service licences introduced by the Transport Act, while the Act itself dispenses with the need for these licence applications to be heard by the Traffic Commissioners at public sittings.
The regulations will also dispense with the requirements for applications to be published in the Commissioners' Notices and Proceedings, although grants will still be published.
