AEC AEC Ltd.,

Southall, Middx.

SINGLE-DECKER chassis with front-, centralunderfloor and rear-underfloor engines and frontengined double-decker chassis are produced by AEC. Rightand left-hand versions are made and two six-cylinder diesels—the AV505 154 b.h.p. unit and the A691 which produces 205 blip.— cover the ranges.

The AV691 is used in the AEC Regent doubledecker in conjunction with semi-automatic transmission or a synchromesh gearbox. Wheelbases of 16ft 4in and 18ft 7in are offered to suit body lengths of 27ft and 30ft respectively and dualcircuit air-braking is standard. As used in the Regent the AV691 is set to give 128 b.h.p. at 1,800 r.p.m. with maximum torque of 402 lb.ft. at 1,200 r.p.m.

The London Transport Routemaster_which was developed initially in conjunction with AEC and Park Royal Vehicles uses AEC components and is also produced with a Leyland engine.

Longest established name in the AEC singledecker range is the Regal which is available for export only. This has a horizontal version of the 691 diesel located centrally and with an output of 205 b.h.p. at 2,500 r.p.m. Wheelbases to suit 33ft and 36k bodywork are available and dual-circuit air-brakes are standard. Leaf-spring and air suspension are options and semi-automatic or synchromesh transmission units are available.

There are versions of the centrally-mounted underfloor-engine Reliance with the 505 and 691 diesels and in the latter case the output is set at 157 b.h.p. at 2,000 r.p.m. There are chassis to suit 30ft, 36ft and 39ft bodywork. Leaf springs or air suspension can be supplied and a recentlyannounced additional option is coil-spring suspension.

The rear-engined AEC single-decker is the Swift which has the AH505 engine as standard. Wheelbases to suit 33ft and 36k bodies are offered and in the latter case the AH691 can be specified. Semi-automatic transmission is the usual fitting but if preferred a five-speed synchromesh gearbox . is available.

The final AEC single-decker is the Ranger which is designed for overseas use and is based on a goods chassis. It has a forward-mounted AV505 vertical engine.
