A"SHOCK" costing of the PTA proposals and the distribution of about lm leaflets to stage carriage passengers are new steps announced in the busmen's fight against Mrs. Castle's plans, writes our Political Correspondent.

The costing is aimed at raising the wrath of ratepayers.

The pamphlets are ready now. They tell passengers that the Minister's plans will put up fares or rates—or both—and that, after three years, local railway losses as well will fall on the rates. Also that the popular long-distance coach will disappear where it competes with the railways.

Midland Red is taking a lead in the campaign, and it was in Midland Red's territory, at Droitwich, that the vice-chairman of VOICE, Mr. W. M. Dravers, said on Wednesday that it was absolutely disgraceful that Mrs. Castle had glossed over the cost of running PTAs.

Immediate pressure for common rates of pay would mean a levelling upwards, he warned, yet the Minister had not attempted to cost her proposals or explain their benefit.

Busmen hope to put this right by showing what ratepayers will have to fork out and enlisting public support.
