Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

the standard of maintenance, all vehicles over five years old are to be failed. Is this correct? We are contemplating converting two 1958 Foden eight-wheelers with air brakes into tractive units with brake modifications. Can you confirm whether this would be practicable?

AThere is no truth whatsoever in the

suggestion that vehicles over five years old will be failed out of hand when they come up for test. The standard lists now being compiled by the Ministry of Transport as a basis for plating vehicles at their first test are known to cover vehicles made at least as long ago as 10 years. Moreover, arrangements are being made for any vehicles not included in these lists.

Therefore if the modifications you have in mind for your Fodens to bring them up to standard can be carried out economically it should prove a practical proposition.
