motor vehicle registration years commenced on January 1 and that a successive letter of the alphabet was being allocated to each year, e.g. 1965 registration had the letter C following the number, 1966 0 and so on. But I now notice the letter F is already appearing although, on the original scheme it should indicate 1968. How does this arise?
AIt was decided by the Minister of Transport
in February this year, after representation from the SMMT, that the motor vehicle registration year would in future begin on August 1 instead of January 1. This has arisen because the manufacturers have claimed that customers were postponing purchase until January each year to obtain the latest suffix letter. This caused an uneven selling pattern.
