Tiptree Appeal Lost, Mr. A. V. Brown, of Tiptree, Essex, has been advised that the Ministry of Transport has rejected his appeal against the Traffic Commissioners' refusal to grant him a road service licence to operate express vehicles between Tiptree and London.

Protection in Brighton.

Brighton Corporation has lodged 340 objections to applications for road ser-vice licences. These comprise 225 applications for excursions and tours touching Brighton, 78 for express' services to or through Brighton, two for excursions and tours originating at

Brighton, and 25 fOr stage-carriage services. The last-named are largely applications made by Southdown Motor Services, Ltd., in respect of operation on roads on which the trams run, and protective fares to safeguard the tramway undertaking have been asked for.

Higher Fares in Witney.

At a recent meeting of Witney Urban District Council a member, in.referring to the protest which the council has made against the withholding of roadservice licences by the Traffic Commissioners, complained that, as the result of the elimination of competition, the bus fares had been raised.
