• Daihatsu has launched an upgraded version of its Hi jet microvan and pickup. The major change is the fitment of a 1.3 litre EFI 16-valve petrol engine, giving 64hp (48kW), a rise of 36% over the previous 1.0 litre. The Front of the vehicles has been given a facelift, but despite the improvements prices stay at £6,700 (ex-VAT) for both models.

• Knorr-Bremse, Bosch and AlliedSignal have formed a joint venture to design and manufacture air brakes and anti-lock braking systems for commercial vehicles. Two Bosch plants in Germany will be taken over by KnorrBremse in return for a stake in the braking company, • Tilcon Lingerfield has bought nine Ft:den Alpha 3000 6x4 mixer chassis fitted with 300hp Caterpillar 31 26 engines, ZF ninespeed gearboxes and Knowles mixing gear. The vehicles will work on general mixer duties throughout the North East.

• Grau has ceased manufacturing its automatic brake adjusters. The existing stock is likely to run out by the end of the year, but spare parts and equivalent replacement adjusters are now being supplied by Haldex.

• PM On Board has launched a new Bin Lift Weighing System. The Weights and Measuresapproved system can handle trade and domestic wheelie bins, and can recognise bin tags, allowing each bin to be identified for invoicing and statistical purposes.

• Roadlink International has made a major expansion to its range of BPW axle components, and has produced a catalogue to illustrate them. • Knorr-Bremse (Munich), AlliedSignal (Morristown, New Jersey) and Robert Bosch (Stuttgart) have announced a joint venture in commercial vehicle air brakes. Bringing together activities in this sector will substantially improve the ability of the German Knorr-Bremse Systeme operation to supply complex brake control and chassis management systems worldwide.

• Kellet (UK), which claims to be the UK's largest supplier of truck and bus parts to the CV factor aftermarket, has launched a new 570-page full colour product catalogue. Redundancy payout

• Lupar, Fife-based Cynthia Thompson, trading as CT Transport, has been ordered by a Dundee Industrial Tribunal to make a redundancy payment of £2,430 to Cupar lorry driver Andrew Walker. Thompson failed to appear before the Tribunal.

Loose wheelnuts

• The one vehicle licence held by James Faulds & Sons (Maybole) has been suspended for a week because of loose wheelnuts. Scottish TC Michael Betts was told the firm had been prosecuted for the use of a dangerous vehicle.

No operating centre

• A company which has no operating centre, Silhouette Exhibitions of Southampton, has been granted a licence by Western TC Christopher Heaps, on condition that the vehicle is returned to the hire company at the end of the day

Speeding cuts licence

• Speeding by a driver employed by Felixstowe-based Deben Transport has led to the company's licence being cut from 42 vehicles and 45 trailers to 37 vehicles and 40 trailers. It appeared before Eastern TC Geoffrey Simms at a Cambridge disciplinary inquiry

No delay in revocation

• The Transport Tribunal has refused to delay the revocation of Thetford-based LCA Distribution (UK)'s interim licence, pending LCA's appeal against Eastern TC Geoffrey Simms' refusal of a licence.
