negotiating with Vauxhall Motors to use the Bedford name in Britain. AWD, which went into receivership in June, had previously been refused permission to use the badge in Britain because Vauxhall was then still using the Bedford name on a range of vans.
Severn rises 11 Hauliers face another increase in Severn Bridge tolls from 1 January next year. The new tolls will be announced next month. The RHA's Western office expects the increase to be inflation plus six per cent adding 80p to the present £.8.40 toll for CVs.
Decisions regs • New regulations governing public inquiries into operator licensing intended to standardise the way Licensing Authorities handle 0-licence applications will come into effect from 1 November. LAs will have to send written statements of their decisions not only to the applicant but to every objector and every person who has made a representation.
Test costs • Annual test fees for vehicles and trailers are to rise from 6 November. Fees for vehicles will go up by £2.30 to £34.70 and by 30p to £17.90 for trailers. Re-test fees are to rise by £1.20 and 20p respectively.
Mountain vandals • Vandals left a trail of more than £12,000 damage at W T Mountain's haulage site in Wirksworth, Derbyshire when they drilled through 60 tyres on the company's fleet of eight-wheel tippers.
