1eyland Daf Vans has become something of
an expert at putting a fresh face on its less than youthful van range. The lift and tuck has become an annual event while the marketing department carves each day into its office walls before the combined Renault/Leyland Daf replacement hits the streets in a couple of years time. This year's cosmetics reached new heights at the Motor Show where Belgian David de Graef has been brought in to air-brush away the creases on a 400 Hi-Loader. Health inspectors will be horrified to see life-sized hunks of meat sharing the load space with old plumbing and parcels. Luckily for Leyland Daf, the rear-end view is an example of David's talents, the van's interior being a full-size mural on the back doors.
David will be working on the van throughout the Show with street scenes well under way by opening day. jimmy Saville opened the Show with the help of 12-year old Justin from Yorkshire. Jim had fixed it for him to open the Show and he'll also be adding some colour to a policeman's helmet on the van's side, under David's supervision.
David will put his finishing touches to the van in the final seconds of the Show this weekend. After that, Leyland Daf will use the Hi-Loader for dealer promotions.
