The BBC says it is normal to wait for the reaction to a new series before planning a second run: "We can't see the potential for it to expand and develop," says a spokesman.
Truckers, which is about a "cowboy" haulage firm, was attracting between five and seven million viewers a week, but met with a barrage of criticism from road transport associations and Commercial Motor for being "unrealistic", and "misrepresenting" the industry. All the actors were understood to be engaged on short-term contracts.
