to the debate on the 40-tonne limit, as a user of haulage services. For many of our products the cube is not the limiting factor, and the benefit from an increase in GVW would be very real.

I would accept Martyn Pellew's view that there are other opportunities for improving efficiency, but a 5%+ benefit from increase payload cannot be ignored.

As ever, much of the debate focuses on the UK. However more than half our sales are to export markts and it is galling that a weight penalty imposed on the short initial leg has to be borne on the remainder of the journey to the other side of the world.
