• Two months after it stopped importing 311 vans, Yugo Cars, importer of the Yugoslavian-built Zastava range of vehicles, says it will be importing a van derivative of the 45A passenger car by January 1988 to replace the 311 van as existing dealer stocks are sold.
The 45A van will cost 22,915.65 plus VAT, and takes its driveline from the Fiat 127inspired passenger car.
The four-cyclinder, ohv, 903cc engine is mounted transversely, with a fourspeed, all-synchromesh gearbox driving the front wheels. Maximum power is 34kW (45hp) at 5,800rpm, while peak torque is 62Nm (461bft) at 3,300rpm.
The payload is only 250kg with a 1m3 load capacity. Yugo hopes to sell the van to businesses where payload is not a major consideration. The suspension is McPherson struttype with coil springs at the front and a transverse semielliptic leaf spring at the rear. The 45A van has disc brakes at the front and drum brakes at the rear, with rack and pinion steering.
Around 600 vehicles will be imported per year, and the 45A will be available from all of Yugo's 180 UK dealers. The interior specification includes a rear wash/wipe, heated rear windscreen, a rubber covered wooden load bed with load restraint bars, and head restraints on the driver and passenger seats.
Although only the 903cc engine will be offered at first, the company hopes to offer 1,100cc, and 1,300cc petrol engine option soon. Yugo gives a twelve-month unlimiteddistance warranty, and a threeyear anti-corrision warranty as standard. An extended warranty is available at extra cost.
