BUILDING BLOCK manufacturer Sage and Down has chosen a 6x4 Foden tractive unit with a tandem-axle York trailer in preference to previously used fouraxle rigids in order to carry palletised building-block loads of 2 2.5 8 tonnes for delivery throughout the South of England.
The vehicle is equipped with a Cummins NTE290 engine and Fuller RTX 11609B gearbox with a. Spicer 390mrri (151/2 inch) clutch. A Rockwell SQ100 rear bogie double-drive unit with high traction differentials is specified to aid on-site operation.
The York 11m (36ft 10in) tandem-axle trailer has a raised headboard, roll-loader tracks to take an integral travelling Atlas Crane, and side cages to eliminate additional load securing.
A spread of 6.3m (20ft Sin) between the tractive unit bogie and front trailer axle (the shortest permissible for 38-tonne operation) has been chosen to give maximum manoeuvrability.
