Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• After concentrating on the production of single-deck MBand SM-type bodies on AEC chassis for London Transport — and not forgetting the important Anglo-Swedish Metro-Scania exercise — Metro-Carnmell Weymann Ltd is now building double-deck bus bodies again in substantial quantities. Illustrated is one of 100 76-seat bodies on 16ft 3in.-wheelbase Daimler Fleetline chassis for West Midlands Passenger Transport Executive.

After experience with two-doorway • 10-metre double-deckers, West Midlands PTE has returned to single-doorway bodies with an overall length of 30ft 10in, and built to the DoE "intermediate height" of 14ft 2in. The similarity to the current Park Royal standard design is notable, though not unexpected (writes Derek Moses) as the

latter company is also building 100 bodies for the PTE, and MCW will soon be building the first of 720 Londoner double-deckers for London Transport, as part of an order for 1600 Londoners (CM September 3), the balance to come from Park Royal.

Meanwhile MCW is also building 35 double-deckers for Cardiff City Transport mounted on Leyland-engined Daimler Fleetlines. Production of the last SMs for LT has slowed down, largely due to chassis unavailability, and it may be 1977 before the last complete bus is delivered.

• Northumberland county council is considering a claim by Scottish Omnibuses Ltd for a subsidy of £10.416 for four bus services operating into Berwick in North Northumberland. stated to be in danger of being closed as uneconomic. The first three services operate north of the River Tweed and enter Northumberland only when crossing the Berwick boundary. but the fourth service covers Berwick and the rural areas of Glendale and Norham and lstandstires, Other bus services in Northumberland operated by United Automobile Services Ltd, and other firms are already being subsidized by the county council and various district councils.
