TNTRODUCTION of a 40-hr. week-I-reduced from 42 hours—for Glasgow Corporation Transport bus crews is likely to take effect from the start of next year. Cdr. W. M. Lee. convener of the transport committee, said last week that negotiations with trade union representatives over the schedules for the new working week have almost been completed. Because of staff shortage, the shorter working week will mean more overtime and this will cost the department an additional (250.000 a year.
The new concession permit for Glasgow old-age pensioners is likely to come into effect within the next few weeks. About 85.000 permits have been issued since the Corporation announced new regulations for their issue earlier this year. 'Fo prevent abuse of these permits, they will be recalled every two years for checking.
Better Year for Dundee : A net surplus of £187 was made in the year ended May 15 last by Dundee Corporation Transport. This compared with a deficit of €45,455 in the previous year. Although the number of passengers was some 87,000 less last year, receipts rose by .€76.128. Working expenses rose by €24.000.
Further Concessions Sought : New burn (Northumberland) Urban Council has asked Newcastle upon Tyne Corporation Transport to convene a meeting of all local authorities bordering Newcastle to discuss extending the system of concessionary fares for pensioners.
