Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

AS an aid to both loading and unloading operations, the moving floor is now definitely established. A new entrant to the ranks of makers of this form of equipment is the Eagle Engineering Co., Ltd., Warwick. In an accompanying illustration, this company's latest product is shown applied to one of its well-known trailers.

Of the rubber type, the Eagle floor is an endless band, and forms part of an assembly that is, itself, a unit, and is suitable for mounting on a variety of types of vehicle.

Composed of rolled-steel sections electrically welded, a well-braced framework forms the basis of the unit. At each end of this structure is mounted a coned tubular roller of large diameter. Ball bearings carry these rollers, the former being housed in slides which can be moved, by means of screw adjusters, for maintaining the correct tension of the band.

• Closely spaced between the main rollers is a large number of smaller-diameter load-supporting intermediate rollers. In the trailer depicted there are 32 of these ; they also run on ball bearings. At' the front end, •on the near side, is the floor operating gear. This consists of a crank handle and simple well-made gear reduction, the ratio chosen affording a good compromise of speed and ease of operation. Alternatively to hand actuation, power may be employed.

Produced by specialists in this field, the rubber belt is capable of standing up to hard wear. The joint is effected by steel slotted buttons of ample size.

A big advantage of the endless-belt floor is that it need never be wound idly. For example, if a load of gravel, say, has been discharged, there is no need to rewind the floor forwards before running the vehicle under the loading chute for another load.

The minimum space is occupied by the mechanism, and any type of body can be built around the moving floor. The whole is of the lightest construction practicable .consistent with strength and durability.
