Streamlined Tankers of Lightweight Design.

fiODERN ideas in tanker design 11(1 will be well exemplified by the three exhibits of this concern. In one case, a Diamond-T 4-5-ton chassis will be used as the foundation of a tanker with a smart streamlined body, in which the tank, rnanway fittings, hose carriers, rear wings, etc., are completely enclosed in an outer casing built on long, sweeping lines from the cab to the tail. Aluminium is employed for the casing and the tank, the latter being mounted on the Silentbloc flexible system.

The second machine—a 2,500-gallon tanker, for the Crow Carrying Co., Ltd.---will be based on a Leyland Beaver twin-steering chassis, the complete unladen weight being below six tons. This vehicle will serve to illustrate the big advances which have been made in weight reduction on this class of outfit.

ANTHONY HOISTS Stand 41 New Model Hoist Alongside* Existing Types. •

I N the past two years this company has achieved much success with its pipeless hydraulic hoists, both of the slant and cam types, but, in addition to three examples of these types, a new model will make its appearance. This is a vertical, telescopic hydraulic hoist, which will be shown on a Bedford 3-ton short-wheelbase chassis. The hoist and steel body weigh only 8i cwt.

The company's No. 17 slant-type hoist will be shown on an International 4-ton chassis. A similar model. No. 30, will be exhibited on a Dodge chassis, both of these vehicles having 9-cubic-yd. drop-sided steel bodies. A Streamlined Coach and Two Service Buses.

OF the three vehicles to be shown on this company's stand, the luxury coach with a full-fronted streamlined body will undoubtedly attract special attention. It is a 32seater Sunsaloon type based on an A.E.C. Regal chassis, and the body-. builder has given special attention in the design to the comfort of the passengers and to luggage accommodation,

Then there will be a Thornycroft 26-seater service bus, which, by reason of its attractive appearance and the passenger comfort it provides, can also be used as an auxiliary for coaching service. In the third exhibit—a 54seater trolleybus based on the Guy four-wheeled chassis—the body has been built to the specification of the purchaser and is well equipped for town service.—John C. The makes of chassis that will be used to display the company's products will be the Bedford short-wheelbase 3-tonner, the Dodge FSF, the A.E.C. Mammoth Major six-wheeled oiler, the Leyland Beaver-Four 6-7-ton oiler, and

the Commer LN5 forward-control model, in, addition to the Karrier CK3 11-ft. wheelbase chassis, which will be shown with a B. and E streamlined double-compartment driver's cab and rear-loading barrier-type refusecollection body incorporating a Fria cipality moving floor. Two of the

BRUSH Stand 32

An All-metal Double-decker and Composite 34-seater.

QN this stand, a 55-seater doubledeck body will serve to draw attention to the features of this maker's all-metal loan of construction, whilst a 34-seater, built to the 1938 design of the B.E.F., will be of composite construction.

The former will be shown on a Daimler chassis, and is one of a further 20 vehicles for Coventry Corporation. This company's anti:octal construction provides for the sectional assembly of such components as sides, roofs, front and rear bulkheads, underframes, doors, etc. The precision methods adopted ensure that any component can readily be replaced. The skeletonframework is built up of 40-ton hightensile steel, of a patented rolled section, which is bolted up with 60-ton high-tensile steel bolts.

The • design of the single-decker embodies a new form of pillar and central roof lamps, whilst air-conditioning and heating are provided. The equipment includes synthetic-glass day light ceiling panels, Quicktho half-drop windows and full-length luggage containers.—Brush Electrical Engineering Co., Ltd., Falcon Works, Loughborough.

Radio Sets in Attractive 32-seater Coaches.

(IF the four coaches on this stand, ‘..ithree will be 32-seaters and the other a 26-seater. One of the former will be based on an Albion Valkyrie chassis, a feature of the coachwork being the splayed-type pillars.

An A.E.C. Regal chassis will carry a body of similar capacity, in which provision is made for fixing a radio set in the front bulkhead. Three of the double seats are reversible and three on the off side are arranged to tip, thus forming a social compartment when private parties are being conveyed.

The third 32-seater body will be carried by a Leyland Tiger chassis and special features include a new design of moulding and stainless-steel flares, a Philco radio set in the front bulkhead, and Eto central heating.

An Albion Victor chassis will carry the 26-seater body, which is of a de

BUTTERFIELD Stand 51 A 1,200-gallon Tanker of Lightweight

Design.

AN aluminium tank on a Dennis 4-ton light chassis will comprise the exhibit of this company. Its capacity is 1,200 gallons and, in licensing trim, the vehicle comes within the 50-cwt. class. The tank is, divided into four compartments-500, 300 and two of 200 gallons. The Silentbloc mounting bolsters are cast in magnuminium alloy, which is 40 per cent, lighter than aluminium.—W. P. Modern Features in Municipal Bus Bodies.

BUILT for municipal duties a doubledecker and a single-decker will be exhibited on this stand to draw attention to the features of Cravens body design. The former will be based on

c58 an A.E.C. oil-engined chassis and the latter will have a Guy six-wheeled trolleybus chassis as its foundation. The double-decker is a 54-seater, the framework of which is of metal, and all hand and guard rails and stanchions are of Staybrite stainless steel. Seats are built up on Nesta tubular frames, the cushions being filled with Dunlopillo and the squabs with Hairlok. The interior finish is in Rexine, which tones with the general trimming, solid walnut mouldings adding to the pleasing effect.

The trolleybus will be a 29-seater, with a body of composite construction, in which the teak framework is rein forced with nickel-steel flitches. It has a wide central entrance with foldingtype doors, operated by Roe's patent gearing; the cab is of the full-fronted pattern.—Cravens Railway Carriage and Wagon Co., Ltd., Darnall. Sheffield, 9.

Five Bodies for Several Distinct Uses.

C)NE of the outstanding exhibits on this stand will be a special firetender body, mounted on a MorrisCommercial 2-ton chassis, the vehicle being for the London Salvage Corps.

Certain unique features are embodied in the semi-streamlined van body to be shown on another 2-tonner of the same make. It provides an approximate loading space of 425 cubic ft. and the rear embodies a Brady roller shutter, which slides under the main roof. A feature of the cab doors is that they slide in Beclawat double ballrace runners.

A Luton-type van body of about 500-cubic-ft. capacity will be shown on a Morris-Commercial 25-cwt. chassis. The tailboard forms a loading ramp and, above it, are two half-doors hung on outrigger hinges, so that the sections fold back flush against the sides. Another exhibit will be a utility vehicle based on the Morris 10-cwt. chassis.

A lorry body on a Morris 5-cwt. chassis completes the exhibit, the body being panelled and having a cab built integral with it. —Cunard Commercial Body Building Co., Talbot Road, West Ealing, London, W.13.

Smart Coaches Equipped on Most Modem Lines.

IN the forefront of bodybuilders, this 1 company intends to exhibit four of its products. There will be two 35seater coaches, one being based on a Dennis Lancet chassis and the other on an Albion Valkyrie chassis, the latter being an oiler. Both bodies are of composite design. The former includes a ramped floor in its construction, and a sliding-panel roof of the company's make. The interior equip

ment includes parcels racks, luxury seats with foot-rests and Dunlonillo cushions.

A feature of the other 35-seater is the raised section at the rear of the body for 17 passengers, which increases luggage space available. There are dual sunshine roofs, that at the front being a Duple concealed-type sliding panel and that at the rear a Sunsaloon hand-controlled type.

Then there will be a 32-seater luxury. type coach body mounted on a Leyland Tiger chassis.

Goods Bodies of Light and Strong Build.

CI.PECIALLY built for the milk trade, .-.3an Albion 44-ton vehicle, for the Express Dairy Co., Ltd., has a body with some outstan Iiing features. Wrought Elektron has been introduced into the framework, so as to keep the weight under 50 cwt. This material appears in the roof framing, roof bearers, and a certain number of the body uprights, chiefly those that are not exposed to the weather. The subf rame is of duralurnin and special care has been taken in jointing up the two materials. The roof has a guard rail and is well slatted to carry empties.

A 7-cubic-yd end-tipping body will be shown on an A.E.C. Monarch chassis; for taxation purposes the weight is below 4 tons. The vehicle is for the Surrey Sand and Gravel Co. Then there will be a Leyland Beaver carrying a Duramin platform body, with a headboard 2 ft high and "side raves formed from duralumin angle having hardwood tapered fillings. The body weighs only 84 cwt. and the cab 24 cwt.

The fourth and final exhibit will be a hinged-sided body. based on an A.E.C. Monarch oil-engined chassis. Both the body and cab:are framed up in duralumin.—Durarnin Engineering Co., Ltd., Standard Road, London, i.N.W.10,

An All-metal Double-decker and a Composite-built Single-decker.

r-IF the two examples of bus body

work to be displayed by this company, one—a 56-seater for Bradford Corporation—will be shown on an A.E.C.-English Electric trolleybus chassis, whilst the other will be a 39-seater mounted on an A.E.C. Regal chassis. The former is of all-metal allwelded construction.

The composite-built single-decker has a near-side front entrance and an emergency exit at the front on the off side. The interior appointments are neatly carried out in green, the mouldings, Rexine-covered lining panels and leather upholstery being in this colour. The seats are built up on tubular frames, the single-spring cushions having Dunlopillo overlays and Xetol squabs. The central portion of the ceiling and the undercarriages of the luggage racks are decorated with Alhambrinal.• Other equipment includes Young's half-drop windows, Ashanco air extractors and Eco canister-type indicators. This vehicle is for the Northern Ireland Transport Board.-English Electric Co., Ltd., Stafford.

Van Bodies of Good Carrying Capacity.

A 5 a specialist in van-body construction, this company intends to exhibit three examples of its products. The largest will be a Luton van body on an, International 3-ton forward• control chassis, the body being well Oroportioned and having a streamlined front; its capacity is approximately

725 cubic ft. The smallest vehicle on the stand will be a 15-cwt. delivery van, also based on an International chassis; in this case the capacity is 160 cubic ft. • A Commer 20-25-cwt. forward-control chassis, with a smart parcels van bodyof 320-cubic-ft. capacity, completes the exhibit. —Express Motor and Body Works, Ltd., 150-164, Goswell Road, London, E.C.1.

New Ideas in an Alt-metal Coach Body.

THE Grose safety coach body, which is of entirely new construction, will be the outstanding exhibit here. Amongst the claims made for this allmetal body are that it saves weight, provides the utmost safety for passengers, has lbw maintenance costs, incorporates standardized parts, and gives the maximum seating capacity, It will be shown on a Bedford chassis.

A second vehicle will comprise a Thornycroft chassis, carrying a 26seater luxury-type coach body, in which the roof and cant-rails are fully swept from the front to the rear.

An Albion Victor chassis will display another streamlined body, this being a 31-seater of the luxury type, in which special attention has been given to the question of passengers' vision. There are seven half-drop windows, and the intermediate pillar has been removed and replaced by a chromium-plated pillar, whiceadds to the appearance.— Grose, Ltd., Marefair, Northampton.

Attractive Coaches, One with Body Having Dorsal Fin.

TWO years ago this company, which

specializes in high-class coach bodies, introduced in one of its coaches a streamlined fin on the top of the dome at the rear, and this unique leature. will again he in evidence on an observation touring saloon body mounted on an .A.E.C. Regal chassis. Ay the use Of this dorsal fin, as it is termed, it is possible to secure ample headroom at the rear, whilst it

materially aids 'ventilation. In this coach, too, will also be seen another 'interesting feature in the form of bent lights of Toughened Triplex in the sides of the roof. There will be several other unusual features in this coach— a 29-seater—including an electrically operated folding sliding head.

A slightly larger vehicle—a 32-seater —based on the Dennis Lancet chassis, will have an observation coach body.

A Dodge chassis. will 'display a 28seater coach body of striking appearance, the main cream exterior being relieved by red wings. In this case, a Walman roof will be employed, this being of the half-panel sliding type. Streamlined Features in Two . Smart Coaches,

I N addition to a 32-seater coach body mounted on a Dennis Lancet II chassis, a full-fronted streamlined 26seater coach body on a Guy Vixen chassis will be in evidence on this stand. The former has a fully swept roof with flush-fitting, mechanically operated sliding panel, swept cant-rails and waist rails, and raked door and window pillars, all of which contribute to an attractive and well-balanced appearance.

In the other body, the rear wings are an unusual feature. A detachable valance encloses the wheels, and is shaped to complete the streamlined appearance .—Samuel Holbrook, Ltd., Park Lane, Wolverhampton.

JENNINGS Stand 20

Special-purpose Bodies of Sound Construction.

PROMINENT on this stand will be a streamlined travelling shop, for which the Bedford 2-ton chassis is employed. This is fitted out for the retailing of groceries and is equipped for serving from a counter at the rear, the salesman standing in a well. The equipment includes a bacon slicer and plenty of shelving.

An example of the company's general-purpose low-loading cattle body, of improved design and incorporating new patents, will also be shown. This has mahogany side boards and the upper part of the sides are detachable, as also is the canopy, so that the body can be used either as a platform lorry, a sided lorry body or as a double-deck cattle truck. It will be shown on a Dodge 3-ton chassis.

A three-horsebox will be seen on a Commer chassis, the vehicle incorporating streamlined features. An extension over the driver's cab provides additional space for fodder and harness and may even be used as an impromptu sleeping berth for a groom.

The final exhibit will be a shooting brake on a Reo chassis.—J.

Bulk-capacity Bodies on Guy Chassis.

LAUNDRY .proprietors will be interested in one of the two exhibits on this stand, for it will consist of a Guy Wolf chassis carrying a boxvan body specially designed for their work.. It has a capacity of 580 cubic ft. and there is an extension over the driver's cab and a rear-loading well. The other exhibit also has a Guy chassis as its Inundation—in this case a Vixen model—which carries a van body of 1,200-cubic-ft. capacity.—C. H. G. General-purpose Van Adaptable for Meat Carrying.

A LTHOUGH the boxvan body to be

shown by this concern on an A.E.C. Matador oil-engined chassis is described as being for meat carrying, it is really suitable for general purposes, special provision being made for the former application. Patented Metal Construction for Two Double.deekess.

THIS company's body products will be well to the fore, for, apart from exhibits here, there will be a number c60

of others on the stands of some of the leading chassis builders. On its own stand the company will have a 70seater trolleybus, using the A.E.C. sixwheeled chassis, and a 53-seater based on a Daimler chassis. The former is for London Transport, and the body is of metal construction, embodying tubular pillar sections and steel-lining sheets riveted together to form a complete inner skin, the side panels being in aluminium alloy. New Exhibitor. Shows Two Luxury Coaches.

ANEWCOMER to commercialvehicle shows, this concern will be represented by two luxury-type coaches, one body being mounted on a Dennis Lancet II chassis and the other on a Commet chassis. The former embodies Mulliner oval quarter lights, which enhance its design and, at the same time, give added strength. This is a 32-seater, whilst the other coach

Several Vans and a Lightweight Platform Body.

r*OODS bodies for several purposes will be in evidence on this stand. An insulated van body will be shown on an Albion 5i-ton chassis.

. A Commer 2-3-ton chassis will be used to direct attention to a special van body, with a Parker roller shutter at the rear. A third van will be based on a Reo 3-ton chassis.

PARK ROYAL Stand 21 A Single-decker for Overseas—One of Four Exhibits FOUR vehicles will be to the fore here, the exhibits being equally divided between single and doubledeckers. The former will comprise a

Daimler 39-seater and a Leyland Tiger 32-seater, and the latter a 'farrier 64seater six-wheeled trolleybus and an A.E.C. Regent 56-seater. The 39seater is of metal construction and is intended for use overseas, for which reason it has a greater body length and 6 ins, more in width than is permitted in this country. Municipal Double-deckers and a B.E.F. Single-decker.

TWO double-deckers, built for Sunderland and Newcastle Corporations respectively, will serve as companions to a Leyland 32-seater on this stand. The body of the larger of the double

deckers—a 60-seater—is of composite construction and incorporates the Roe solid-section interlocked waist-rail and pillar joints. The other double-decker is for 48 passengers, and the body includes a central entrance with dual staircases.

The single-decker has a body of composite construction, built to the design of the B.E.F. It accommodates 32 passengers. Features of the design include a new type of pillar and centre roof lamp.—Charles H. Roe, Ltd., Crossgates, Carriage Works, Crossgates, Leeds.

Light Composite Van Body.

APART from its exhibits in the vehicle section, this concern will have a Thomycroft Sturdy boxvan on view to draw attention to its bodybuilding activities. The framework is of special design, the woodwork being strengthened by light steel members, whichhelp to reduce the weight without impairing strength. Special Features in a Range of Tipping Bodies.

AS a tipping-gear specialist, this, company will have a range of its products to the fore, together with examples of its bodywork. A new type of underneath hydraulic end-tipping gear will be shown on a body with 'hinged and detachable sides. With this gear the maximum loading space is achieved, as the body fits up close to the back of the driver's cab. Moreover, the loading height is reduced. A Reo chassis will serve to display its merits. A Dennis 21-ton chassis will carry a three-way hydraulic-tipping body, the side boards of which are hinged and fall into a horizontal position on a level with the floor.

Next up the scale will be a Guy Vixen 3-4-tonner with an hydraulically operated end-tipping body, with a steel-lined floor. The tipping gear is

of the telescopic type. The exhibit will be completed by a Cornmer LN5 chassis carrying a lightweight endtipping body, in which aluminium-alloy sections are employed.—Spenborough Engineering Co., Ltd., Union Road, Heckmondwike.

Two Bodies for the Agriculturist.

ONE of the 2-tonners to be shown by this company will be a generalpurpose lorry, based on a Bedford chassis, for market gardeners' and farm use. The other 2-tonner—also a Bedford—will interest agriculturists, for, apart from its main purpose as a.cattle carrier, it can be converted to a flatplatform lorry for certain farm work. The floor slopes at the rear to meet a Lake's patent ball-bearing ramp.

A boxvan body will be shown on a Bedford 30-cwt. chassis, this being framed-up in ash and panelled in Sundeala. Finally, there will be a Bedford 3-ton pantechnicon, which has been built for Philips Lamps, Ltd. Although its capacity is 1,000 cubic ft., the unladen weight of the vehicle is under VI tons.—Spurling Motor Bodies, Ltd., Edgware Road, London, N.W.9.

STEEL • BARREL Stand 42 Tankers for Milk and Motor Spirit.

M'ITH many years' experience in the VI' manufacture of tanks for all purposes, it is only natural that this company should display examples of this side of its activities. There will be two tankers on view, one a 1,000gallon double-compartment tanker for the conveyance of motor spirit, in which a Dodge 3-ton chassis is used, and the other a 1,300-gallon stainlesssteel tanker for the conveyance of milk, for the foundation of which a Carrimore four-wheeled trailer is employed.

A point of interest in the former is that the complete vehicle -comes well within the 2i-ton weight limit. The c61 larger tanker has a single7cornpartinent .elliptical body; which is lagged with Alfol and covered with aluminium sheeting to ensure that the tempera, ture does not rise or fallmore than 5 degrees F. For mounting on the trailer, light fabricated feet are used,— Steel Barrel Co., Ltd,, Uxbridge.

STRACHANS Stand 2$

Welhdesigned Coaches and Livestock Body.

N exhibit which is certain to ti attract notice on this stand will be the Curtis de luxe general-utility and livestock body, mounted on a Bedford 2-ton chassis. The design of the partitions ensures that the body possesses

the utmost utility. Detachable and quick-release flexible breast straps, folding tables, mangers, hay nets and

halters are also features of note. A single ramp is fitted on the off side.

On the passenger side two 32-seater coach bodies will be in evidence—one based on an A.E.C. Regal chassis and the other on a Dennis Lancet oilenginecl chassis. The former has a fullfronted cab. The other 32-seater has a mell-balanced appearance without the use of exaggerated streamline effects. Range of Tankers of Different Capacities.

1--IF the four tankers to be shown, the X./largest will be a 2,500gallon vehicle, which has as its basis a Leyland Beaver chassis. It has five compartments of equal capacity,*features of the design being the hose tubes along each side of the tank, the lighttype walkway platform and the tubular ladder. This body is built for alcohol,

et12 Next in capacity will be a light weight 1,500-gallon . stainless-steel elliptical tank of registered design, mounted on an Albion chassis, this being for the transport of milk. The tank is insulated with Alfol. A Dennis chassis will carry a 1,000-gallon cylindrical tank, which has four compartments and is intended for motor-spirit conveyance. Each of these bodies is supported on light-gauge steel, detach able mounting bearers. The exhibit will be completed by a " school" power mobile refuelling tender, comprising two mild-steel tanks, each with a capacity of 225 gallons.—Thompson Brothers (Bilston), Ltd., Bilston.

Specially Sprung Horsebox With Two Ramps. ri,F the two exhibits on this stand, L./one will be a horsebox with an off side and rear ramp, the latter being an important feature, in that it can be used not only for unloading the third horse, but for use in emergency. WAVENEY Stand 100

Attractive Coaches of Different Seating Capacities.

THREE coaches will be displayed to exemplify features of the design of Waveney products. The smallest of them will be an attractive 20-seater body, mounted on a Cm:rimer chassis. The Sunsaloon head gives an 8-ft. opening, below which are parcels racks fitted at the cant-rail level, the undersides of them being decorated to harmonize with the interior colour scheme. An Albion Victor chassis will carry a 31-seater semi-luxury coach body, which has a Weathershields singlcpanel head, giving a 9-ft. opening. Metal and Flexible Bodies Mounted on Leyland and Daimler Chassis.

l‘AETAL and flexible construction tor IYIbodywork are to be featured on this stand. A 48-seater normal-height body mounted on a Leyland Titan TD.5 oilengined chassis will appear alongside a Daimler C.O.G.5 35-seater front-entrance vehicle. The metal body is of M.C.W. patented construction, embodying tubular pillars.

The flexible body is built on the Weymann patented principle of flexible cellular air-joint construction.—Weymann's Motor Bodies (1925), Ltd., Addlestone, Surrey.

Double-decker Companion to Three Single-deckers.

PASSENGER vehicles for service and coaching uses are listed for exhibit on this stand. The largest of the four to be shown will he a 52-seater lowbridge-type body on a Daimler Gardner-engined chassis. It has a special double gangway and the vehicle is for Luton Corporation. Next come two 39-seaters, one a streamlined coach based on the Dennis Lancet II chassis, and the other a serVice-type bus, for which the Albion Valkyrie chassis is employed; both are oilers. These bodies are of composite construction, ash and 3 per cent, nickel steel being used.

The final exhibit will be a 35-seater de luxe body on a Daimler chassis.— ,Willowbrook, Ltd., Derby Road, Loughborough.

WILSONS Stand 23 Dodge Chassis Used for Three Exhibits.

STRIKING amongst the three exhibits here will be a shooting brake or utility body mounted on a Dodge l5-cwt. chassis. The body seats lip to eight people, and all timbers are finished in the natural colour, The other exhibits will also be on Dodge chassis—the company is a main dealer for this make—one being A laundry body on a 1-tonner and the other a standard boxvan on a 2-toaner.— Wilsons (Kingston), Ltd., 20, High Street, Kingston-on-Thames.

Slant Hoists on Three Types of Chassis.

OCCUPYING a stand adjoining its associated company, Bromilow and Edwards, Ltd., this concern will have three vehicles on view, One will be a Reo with a steel, end-tipping body raised by the Wood slant hoist; another an International chassis with a timber end-tipping body, operated by a similar hoist; and the third a steelbodied Studebaker with a different type of slant hoist. —Wood Hoists, Ltd., Foundry Street, Bolton.
