We learn with interest that Mr. W. Treece, general manager of Eleetricars, Ltd., the well-known concern of electric= vehicle manufacturers, has been appointed a director of the company.

Mr. George Pate, B.Sc., late chief engineer and director of D. Napier and Son, Ltd., is joining the Albion Motor Car Co., Ltd., at its headquarters at Glasgow, and at an early date will take his seat on the board as a director. -It may not be generally known that, before joining the Napier concern, Mr. Pate was, for a number of years, on the staff of the Albion company.

Mr. A. J. Hopkins, who was one of the three successful competitors sharing the place of honour in the recent Morris-Commercial individual sales progress competition, is the commercial representative for Messrs. Wadham Brothers, of ViTaterlooville, Hants. He has occupied this position for some years, previously to which he was engaged on the service side of the company, so that he is well equipped to give service, apart from sales, advice to users and potential buyers.

Captain ,Clement Jackson, M.O., M.I.A.E., A.M.Inst.T., general manager and engineer of the Oldham Corporation tramways, was, on October 21st, appointed general manager and engineer of the tramways and motorbus undertaking of Plymouth Corporation, in succession to Mr. H. P. Stokes, who is leaving next month to take up his post as general manager of the United Automobile Services Co., Ltd. Alto,gether 52 applications for the position had been received.

Captain Jackson, who is 36 years of age, began his career in the Sheffield Corporation tramways and motor department, where he was indentured in 1909. Ultimately he became assistant engineer of the tramways, operating over 850 cars, and motorbus superintendent; responsible for the operation and maintenance of the entire fleet. In June, 1922, he was appointed general manager and engineer of the Keighley Corporation tramways, and three years later he went to Oldham. Since he became responsible for the Oldham undertaking the annual revenue has materially increased. Furthermore, the motorbus section has developed very rapidly.

Captain Jackson, who has had considerable experience of Parliamentary work, includingutho preparationti and giving of evidence in connection with local Acts and Ministry of Transport inquiries, has had a total of over 900 employees under his control at Oldham.

Waterloo Bridge to be Widened.

The London County Council decided last week to take steps forthwith to recondition Waterloo Bridge and to widen it to the extent recommended by the Royal Commission on Cross-river Traffic.

Filling Steamer Tanks from Hydrants.

In response to complaints of the nuisance caused by steam wagons utilizing fire hydrants for the filling of their water tanks the watch committee of Glasgow Corporation is arranging to limit the practice to certain hydrants, a list of which is being prepared.

A Valuable Reference Book.

"Motor Products and their Sources of Supply " is a publication recently issued by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders, Ltd., 83, Pall

Mall, London, S.W.1. It has been prepared,from information supplied by members of the Society, so as to provide a classified index to motor products on the British market and ba directory of the manufacturers or concessionnaires marketing or supplying these products. The information which is given is most complete and the work of reference is facilitated by separating the details into sections.

The trade information department of the Society, by which the booklet has been prepared, is always ready to answer trade inquiries. The new booklet is priced at is. per copy and it can be obtained from the address given above.

Nomenclature of Harrier Models.

In the centre pages of our issue dated October 8th we gave details of the new range of passenger-carrying vehicles made by Karrier Motors, Ltd., of Huddersfield. Since that date the company in question has altered the distinctive names allotted to the chassis. The amended list is as follows :—Cutter, four-wheeler, 20 seats; Coaster, fourwheeler, 26 seats; Chaser, four-wheeler, 32 seats ; Clipper, six-wheeler, 40 seats; Consort, six-wheeler, 68 seats. Examples of the Chaser and Consort chassis will be shown at the forthcoming exhibition at Olympia.

A Yorkshire Bridge Subsidence.

The highways committee of West Riding County Council reports that the unsafe condition of the Greet Bridge which carries the Keighley and Kendal main road over the River Greta in the Settle rural district is due to subsidence as a result of the working of coal in the district. The engineers state that subsidence will continue for a further period of five years. Owing to the defective condition of the bridge vehicular traffic has had to be diverted and the committee has voted a large sum for the erection of a temporary bridge pending the reconstruction of the structure when subsidence has ceased.
