Joseph Lucas, Ltd., of Birmingham, has issued its report and balance sheet for the year ended the 31st August last. The profit for the year, after due provision for depreciation, is £25.628. We are gratified to learn that the Star Engineering Co. has received a firm order for 200 two-tonners from the French Government after a very satisfactory test. The company was able to arrange to deliver from 10 to 12 two-tonners a week France requires yet further chassis

Mr. H. T. Vane, of D. Napier and Son, Ltd., advises us that, owing to the fact that 200 of his company's men have joine41 the Forces, they have vacancies for skilled machinists of various kinds. If British workmen cannot be found for these jobs, he suggests that there may be suitable Belgian refugees who can

fill the vacancies. Applications from anybody who knows of such men can be made to the Acton Works.

In response to an urgent appeal by the W.O. for 1000 drivers and 50 fitters for service with the A.S.C.; M.T., a large number of men promptly crowded the narrow passage of Craig's Court, Whitehall, last Friday morning. The majority of the applicants were of the taxi-driver class, and possibly because the announcement stated that the wages were to be two guineas a week and all found, the response was remarkable, in spite of the short notice.

We learn that there was a crowd of between 10,000 and 15,000 present at the recent football match, which was held on behalf of the T.O.T. Mutual Aid Fund, organized by the London General Omnibus Co„ Ltd. Several of the directors were present, but Sir Albert Stanley was unable to attend owing to indisposition. It is anticipated that a considerable sum will have been raised by this event, which is the forerunner of others which are • to be arranged with, the same object.
