Electric Cabs in Germany. I learn that electric cabs are being in with financial success, at Munich, the Nliinchener Elektromobil:etriebsgesellsehaft : this result does at at all correspond with that attained L Berlin. The North German AutoLobile and Motor Company is able to art Krieger cabs in Bremen.

Lore Street-cleaning Machines for Berlin.

A few weeks back I mentioned that le Berlin Street-cleansing Department as well satisfied with its electric streeteanser, of which I sent a description hen it made its d6but, and now I learn tat, at the in of Engineer Szalla, ho is in charge of the department, the orporation has decided to acquire tree additional electric machines of the tune type, and also to remodel two wse-drawn vehicles for electric prodsion.

Self-propelled Vehicles for Fire Brigades.

Dresden is giving a trial to an elecic gas-engine, with a tank carrying )me oo gallons of water. It has been [polled by the Daimler Nlotorensellschaft, which possesses for Ger„an towns the selling rights of the ohner-Porsche electromotors, two ich forming part of the system of -opulsion applied in this case. ayence, too, which is already in .1-s:session of an electric-driven fireIgine, will shortly own a second; at 1v rate, the Fire Brigade Department rongl recommends the Corporation

■ purchase another vehicle of the incl. Further, Messrs. Opel have supled the Hamburg Salvage Corps a couple of small petrol vehicles ,r first-aid work ; each carries little as-pumps and fire-proof mats.

The Wiesbaden Corporation has been titioned to approach the Governor of Le Province of Hesse-Nassau, with a ew to the obtaining of a police veto sit-prpelted industrial vehicle,: ith metal-shod wheels.

"Industrials” at the Berlin Brewery Exhibition. Dropping in at the Jubilee Exhibition ' the " Versuchs-und Lehranstalt far raucrei " (Experimental School of Brewing) here, I found some of the leading makers of the industrial class represented. Indeed, German brewers are manifesting less and less reserve towards the self-propelled vehicle, and not only the firms give a trial to the modern form of propulsion, but those who have tried it purchase additional vehicles. As an instance, the great Berlin " Pmzenhofer " Brauerci may be cited. This firm began a short while back with a couple of benzol Nlarienfelders of the heavy-lorry type, and it has just bought a trio of Adlers," the Frankfort Company's vehicles being of lighter types. Hence, a brewery exhibition not comprising automobiles would be incomplete—an increasingly-important factor in the trade would be ignored.

I noticed that most of the automobile exhibits bore the War Office's subvention plaque, which, of .Course, constitutes a splendid advertisement for the lirm itself, as well as for the motor industry generally. This subvention scheme is re-acting favourably, in an indirect manner, on the trade. Managers of commercial undertakings are saying to themselves : " If these self-propelled vehicles are good enough for our War Office, which doesn't, as a rule, throw its money into the sea, they are good enough for us." So they hue, preferring, naturally, the

make which has emerged triumphant from the stiff Government ordeal.

To come to the exhibits : Messrs. Scheibler showed a six-ton lorry, with rubber-shod wheels, and close by steol two ponderous and bulky Buessing vans, each for a useful load of six tons, the one iron-shod and the other having solid rubbers. The N.A.G. exhibited two vehicles for useful loads of one ton and four tons respectively, the bodywork of the subsidised and heavier wagon being particularly neat and practical. Opposte the N.A.G.'s exhibits stood a Marienfelde fourtormer, for benzol consumption, such as was acquired recently by the " Patzenhofer " Brauerei.

From the Fahrzeugfabrik Eisenach. which is undergoing financial re-construction, came a five-ton iron-shod chassis, the leading characteristics of which were described in " TBE ConMERCIAL MOTOR at the time of the last Berlin Motor Exhibition.

The Adler Company haul quite a smart stand, showing three vehicles, namely, a light delivery van, a coveredin wagon (purchased by the abovementioned brewery), and a three-ton lorry. This three-tonner, as embodying the Frankfort firm's first essay in the heavy line, merits a few words. The main features of the Adler chassis are ma ximum encasement of working parts; motor and gear built to form an integral system ; lateral arrangement of valves; sump lubrication, with gear pump and leads. The gear unit i. mounted on a special auxiliary frame. hung by three-point suspension in movable bearings on the main frame, with a view to preserving it from torque effects and road-shocks; the allenclosed donbl:,-transmission arrangement, first by cardan to the differential countershaft, and thence by chain And sprocket to the road-wheels, gives the ynhicle that noiselessness of motion which characterises the Adler makes. By the unloosening of a few screws, the outside half of a chain case can be removed. The four-cylinder engin(' develops t5h.p., which seent, a trifle mo low for a three-ton wagon, especially when stiffish gradients and a

full load have to be tackled. Four speeds arid a reverse, with a top speed of ro miles an hour, are provided.

A Dresden Enterprise.

Dresden's latest "commercial " enterprise is the flotation of a Motor Carrying Company with a capital of ..rer,000. The LastautomobilspeditionsGesellschaft, to give it its long-winded German title, has begun with " Dixi " lorries and vans, but entertains no prejudice against other makes. Good business is reported.

Subvention Trials.

The yth November will witness the beginning of a i,600-kilometre trial of lorries whose makers ate anxious to secure State assistance, the trial being organised by the Experimental Section of the Transport Service. The trials will last between ten and twelve days, so that the contemplated daily stages are not long. Only the four-ton type of vehicle, equal to drawing a trailer for a useful load of two tons, is eligible for competition, Diirkcipp, the North German Automobile and Motor Gesellschaft (Bremen), and Podeus (Weimar) are amongst the construe tors who are submitting lorries to the military test, Hitherto, subvention plaques have been granted to the following Prussian makes : Marienfelde ; N,A,G.; Scheibler ; Stoe, wer; and Gaggenau. [See page The route will probably be a circ from and to Berlin, taking in Kottly Bautzen, Dresden, Zwickau, Je: Coburg, Gotha, Cassel, the Barz d trict (a still test), Wernigerode, Halb stadt and Magdeburg. Success firms receive the War Office subventi for '909.

I understand that the rgto can dates are to take part in the coral industrial trials, to he initiated by Imperial Motor Club ; hence no spec test, as in the present and precedi cases, will occur. I also hear that t Ansbach Company has successfu stood the Bavarian War Office's te and received assistance in respect ten lorries of the above-mentioned tyi

The Bergmann Electric Co., Berlin, which exhibited at the 1: Berlin Motor Show an industr chassis carrying a new type of Edis battery, has raised its capital ,t,o5o,000 by the issue of 7,000 shall of L;so each.
