GERMAN TRUCK couplings manufacturer Jost has bought Edbro, the Bolton-based supplier of tipping gear, hydraulic cylinders and truck wet kits.
Edbro was established in 1916 by engineer Maurice Edwards and claims to be the originator of truck tipping-hoists powered by the engine. It employs 200 people.
In 1992 Edbro was bought by a French vehicle hydraulics manufacturer Marell, which was bought in 1998 by Paris-based turnaround specialist Caravelle.
Jost, based in Neu-Isenburg, has about 2,000 employees worldwide and holds the lion’s share of the European market for fifth-wheel couplings and trailer landing gear.
It diversified its product range by purchasing drawbar coupling manufacturers Rockinger and Regensburger Zuggabel in 2001 and 2004 respectively, followed by Tridec in 2008.
