LESS THAN A fifth of the driver workforce has completed Driver CPC training, even with the directive set to be law in two years’ time.
A survey of 172 LGV drivers by recruitment agency Milestone revealed that 8% do not plan on taking Driver CPC training at all – and 30% had not started any form of training. By region, the North East had the highest number (13%) of respondents not planning to undertake training. In the South East, 38% of the drivers questioned had already finished CPC training.
The survey also showed that only 18% of drivers had finished CPC training. Of those questioned, 44% were already engaged in the CPC process. Despite this, Milestone MD Chris Bryant conceded the potential shortfall was larger than he had expected.
“These drivers will not all be replaced at current rates of LGV licence acquisition, and any economic recovery will magnify the shortage issue,” he said.
