• A paper by Tohru Nishiyama, a Nissan engineer, on the company's paint inspection robots which have optical sensing and tracking functions won the "Intel Award", at the International Symposium on Automotive Technology and Automation (ISATA) at Flims, Switzerland, last month.
The paint inspection robots can scan the entire painted surface of a car in only 1.2 minutes, detecting irregularities as small as 0.3 millimetres.
