Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• The long, drawn-out argument over whether the Road Haulage Association will press for the weight limit for eightaxle rigids to be raised from 30.5 to 32 tonnes (CM Aug 30) will be resolved on December 16. On that date the RHA's technical committee will meet all interested groups within the Association to thrash out a final decision.

The tipping functional group and the group representing agricultural hauliers are both keen to see a weight increase. The technical committee, however, thinks there is a fairly strong technical argument for not going for an increase.

Tim Inman, technical manager, says: "Even though an increase would be desirable, at this moment, within present C&U restrictions the axle weight tolerances would be tight."
