• Wincanton Transport has boosted its profits by 45% during the six months to September 30.
The Yeovil-based transport and distribution specialists saw profits jump from £4.5 million to £6.5 million, contributing to a 37% growth in profits for the Unigate group as a whole.
Wincanton's sister company, Giltspur enjoyed an .£800,000 rise in profits to £3.4 million, but this growth was largely due to strength in the company's exhibition services business.
Oldacre Holdings, which specialises in vehicle distribution, animal feed, grain and seed trading, is now contributing to the group's profits and is becoming an increasingly important supplier to the group's poultry operations.
