A SUNDERLAND haulage firm, Leslie & Alan Gilmore, 11 Gordon Terrace, Southwick, which had been in business since 1963, were not aware an operators licence was required until their vehicle was checked by a DoE examiner.
The Northern Licensing Authority, Mr J. A. T. Hanlon, was told this at Durham when a licence was granted for a . two-year period.
Mr Leslie Gilmore said he and his two sons ran the business and one of them acted as driver. The vehicle was engaged on local work for Dumter Paper Mills and Thorn Electric. The other son, Alan Gilmore, was a qualified engineer and looked after the maintenance.
Originally, the vehicle had been C licensed and it was not until they were told by the examiner that an 0 licence was required for the vehicle, that it was realised that the Transport Act applied to it.
Granting the licence, Mr Hanlon warned of the firm's responsibilities under the Transport Act.
