• Newcastle upon Tyne transport committee is to experiment with 10-journey tickets which will be franked by passengers themselves on one-man buses. At the outset, the tickets will be used on one route and if successful, extended to others. Passengers will buy the tickets from the driver and have them franked by placing them in an automatic machine near the bus entrance when starting each journey. Ur. N. Trotter, chairman of the transport committee, said that the multi-journey tickets would be sold at a slight discount, but the main advantage would be in the time saved in buying a ticket, and obtaining change, for every journey. The undertaking is also using a flashing sign which operates when an entrance door is opened, to warn intending passengers that it is a pay-as-you-enter bus.
