• After hearing Mr. W. Gilboys, a director of W. Gilboys Transport Ltd., Leeds, the Yorkshire deputy LA, Mr. Maxwell Gosnay, at Leeds on Wednesday suspended two vehicles from the licence of the firm because of continued fleet maintenance deficiencies. Gilboys sought the renewal of its B licence for 13 vehicles.
In giving his decision Mr. Gosnay said there were two other vehicles operating in addition to the 13 on B licence; the latter were mainly engaged on tipping work on sites and subject to a good deal of wear and tear. At a public enquiry on October 25 last year, Gilboys had had two vehicles suspended from
this licence for six months, following a number of GV9s being issued, since when a further five immediate GV9s had been issued and he had to consider the conduct of the applicant. Mr. Gosnay said that, from the vehicle examiner's report, there was a maintenance system "of sorts" but he was not satisfied the system was, as yet, efficient. Some efforts had been made to improve it, but the required standard had not been reached. It would be right to make a grant for 11 vehicles and suspend the two vehicles previously taken off. As the applicant was making an effort to put his house in order an application made in three months' time for additional vehicles would receive consideration.
