LECTURE ON SWEDISH TRANSPORT

-THE Editor of this journal, Mr. G. 1 Mackenzie Junner, who is also president of the Institute of Road Transport Engineers, read a paper on November 19, entitled Road Transport in Sweden," before the London Branch of the Industrial Transport Association. The chairman of that Branch, Mr. C. N. Lidguard, presided.

Lantern slides, most of them from photographs taken by the lecturer, illustrated some of the points he made, particularly in connection' with the advancement of road construction, and efficiency in garaging and maintenance. Mr. Junner referred to the great assistance given to him and the 1.R.T.E. party by Mr. Sten Mellgren.

Mr.. Lidguard commented upon the large amount of information which had been obtained in a few days.

AMOST useful pre-war publication, Cook's Continental Timetable, suspended since 1939,was recently reissued at 5s., and is said to be the only one of its kind in existence. It lists more than 750 routes, and gives the latest information concerning passports, visas, foreign exchange, etc. Using it, a traveller can plan his own itinerary throughout Europe.

A.E.C. OPENS SERVICE DEPOT IN GLASGOW La I AST Tuesday the Associated Equip

ment Co., Ltd., opened a new service depot in Squire Street, Whiteinch. Glasgow, about 3i miles from the centre of the city. Although the COMpany has maintained offices and spareparts stores in Glasgow for many years; operators of A.E.C. vehicles in Scotland have not previously had direct service facilities.

The premises cover 14,000 sq. ft. and consist of two bays, each more than 200 ft. long. One of the departments is devoted• to the servicing of fuelinjection equipment. The machine shop is provided with the latest machinetools and appliances. The stores are arranged on the Southall pattern and are divided into sections for engines, gearboxes, axles, frames and miscel
