Lorries destroyed in blaze

POLICE are treating a fire that destroyed two trucks at a Yorkshire lorry park as arson.

The driver of one of the lorries, who was asleep in the cab at the time of the attack at the Dragon Road Lorry Park, Harrogate, was able to jump to safety. No other injuries were reported.

One of the lorries, owned by Kidds Removals, was filled with clothing collected in the area that was due to be sent to a poor township in South Africa. Managing director Phillip Kidd says: "The loss of people's belongings is sad, but luckily there were no injuries. It could have been much worse."

The other lorry, which was largely empty, belonged to Jet Removal Services. Police are appealing for any eye witnesses to the fire to come forward. A spokesman commented: "We are treating this as suspicious and need to speak to anyone who might have information about rt."
