A HAULIERS co-operative wants land to be made available for operators when surplus Ministry of Defence land in Portsmouth is sold for industrial development.
Road Operators Associated Delivery Services, the co-operative associated with the Road Haulage Association's Southern area, wants premises to be made available for hauliers if there is any industrial development on redundant MoD' land. ROADS manager David Allen said this might help reduce a serious parking problem which already exists in Portsmouth.
Mr Allen has also been pressing the Department of Transport to reduce the bureaucratic procedures involved in negotiating the provision of haulage facilities, especially when organisations such as ROADS have to deal with several local government committees responsible for one site.
One of the jewels in ROADS's own crown, its bulk fuelling, vehicle servicing, and secure parking joint arrangement with F. English (Commercials) Ltd, at Poole, is expected to open next month.
It is the eighth bulk fuel facility for ROADS, which has issued 400 credit cards to 35 companies for use at these outlets.
