BATTLES ARE SAID to have been lost for lack of a nail in a 0 horse's shoe. But when the first Royal Mail Postbus service was inaugurated in North Yorkshire recently, the nail that nearly los' the day punctured the bus tyre and caused embarrassment to a party of VIPs.
The equestrian disaster happened when the towbar of a reproduction Victorian mail coach with four grey horses, a guard, postman and passengers in period costume, broke during a tight turn in a small village square. Fortunately there was no injury except to dignity and to an elaborate publicity stunt.
