IF I WERE a commercial vehicle manufacturer I might think twice about boasting of record sales of replacement parts. I might be happier if I could claim that spares were so seldom needed that sales of them had dropped to a new low level.
This view is not shared by Mercedes-Benz, whose general manager, parts, Wim Kleinloch, "is reporting incredible increases in monthly sales of parts". Mercedes holds a competition to find the parts manager of the year, who receives £750. This year's winner is Derek Marshall, of Bel Trucks, Bedlington.
