Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

AECONOGUIDE piston (CM, indurance test in a 1275cc petrol Test results to date have ihown a reduction in engine fricion of up to 14 per cent which kE claims can translate into a )ower improvement of five per :ent and an improvement in fuel )conomy of up to four per cent. May 1) has completed a 360-hour engine.

Produced by the AE group, the piston has the normal full contact area of the skirt profile on the thrust and non-thrust faces replaced by small individual contact areas or pads.

After the 350-hour test, the pads continue to show machining marks while there are no signs of scuffing.

These pads which are 0.025mm (about one thou) proud of the skirt are produced by machining the piston on equipment designed and developed by AE.

The effect of the AEconoguide design is to reduce the total contact area of the skirt by about 75 per cent while ensuring that both contact area and stiffness remain consistent over a wide range of loads and temperatures.
