r'HE Northern Ireland Minister of L Home Affairs revealed in the Ulster commons last week that Government ,sistanee for operations of the Ulster ransport Authority and the Road ransport Board from 1935 until March is year amounted to more than LlInrn. This was made up, he said, of grants £14m. and cancellation of debt of more an i12m. In addition, Government ans totalling more than £3m. are outanding. The Minister gave these figures answer to a question by Miss Sheelagh lurnaehan (Lib., Queen's). Mr, David i3leakley (tab., Victoria) declared; These figures represent a quite stupendous investment in public trans port. Does the Minister not agree that no Government has the right to squander this great investment in public transport for this province. Would he once again have another look at his new transport policy, which is likely to devastate the economy of Northern ,Ireland?" The Minister replied that the new transport policy was to try to cut the losses which were being sustained.
