i NEW car/commercial vehicle delivery service by rail from Luton to Widnes, near Liverpool, was introduced by Motor Vehicle Collection Ltd. on Tuesday. This releases 16 Lutonbased road transporters for local delivery work and there will be six transporters at Widnes for deliveries in the 1â– Ibrth West. The company plans to extend the service to six trains a week and to cover the Yorkshire catchment area. Initially the service involves three trans a week operating a round trip (LutonWidnes-Luton) in just over 24 hours and carrying return loads south. Vauxhall Motors' new Ellesniere Port factory may be producing vehicles within six weeks and there may be further traffic from Ford's Halewood plant. The first train carried 76 Vauxhall cars and Bedford light vans to Widnes and took Ford G.P.O. vans on return. Motor Vehicle Collection plans a rail operation also from Oxford to Widnes and from Widnes to Baffigate. When the Channel '1 unnel is built the company expects io run a railborne Continental car-carrying
