Eligible employees can make a request to: • change the hours they work • change the times when they are required to work: or • work from home (whether for all or part of the week) Whether an employee is eligible or not, many employers offer flexible working opportunities and the employee can still approach their employer to find out what opportunities exist.
Making an application: An employee should set out: their desired working pattern; arguments as to why it can be implemented; and the date they would like the new pattern to start. There is no entitlement under the legislation for employers to ask for proof of either parental or caring responsibility.
