AN EDINBURGH lorry driver has been awarded 121,638 by an industrial tribunal. Robert MacAndrew was sacked after a complaint by one of his employer's valued customers.
The tribunal said in its written judgment that the employer, Thomas Smith Jun (Newhaven), of Leith, did not investigate the complaint properly.
But it added that MacAndrew's behaviour had contributed to his dismissal by 60 per cent. And they reduced Compensation for lost earnings accordingly.
The incident which led to the sacking happened at Invergordon Distillers' bonds at Loanhead, last June. Mac Andrew was said to have sworn because he claimed his firm had given him the wrong lorry for the load he was to pick up there.
