Mr. R. W. Tweed, the traffic manager of Al'sop and Sons, Ltd., Burton-onTrent, has been elected a member of the Institute of Transport.
The Minister of Transport has allpointed Alderman F. Weekiey, J.P., Mayor of Grantham, to act as a deputy Traffic Commissioner for the East Midland Area, from the panel of representatives of county boroughs and urban district councils.
With the object of extending the overseas connections of the Laycock Engineering Co., Victoria Works, Millhouses, Sheffield, two of the executive staff of the company, Mr. L. C. Spaven and Mr. H. Clayton-Wright, are at present operating in Denmark and the L'aited States respectively.
We are advised that Mr. Maurice E. Fox has resigned as managing director of Edison Storage Battery Distributors, Ltd., after a connection of over 21 years with Edison interests. He is succeeded by Mr. A. F. Wagner.
Mr. Fox joined Edison's in 1910, when he directed a considerable part of the researches in lead and alkaline accumulators, which were carried on at the Edison laboratories in the United States. Early in 1912 he was detailed by the late Thomas Alva Edison to look after his various interests and to assist in developing Edison battery sales in Europe. In 1920 Mr. Fox formed and headed a company on the Continent for the sale of the battery, later relinquishing his position to become managing director of Edison Storage Battery Distributors, Ltd., when that company was formed in England in 1929.
Scottish Hauliers Organize.
Haulage contractors and others engaged in the transport industry in Diimfries and district, recently met at Dumfries and agreed to form a local branch of the Short Distance Handiers' Alliance. Mr. J. C. Hogg was appointed chairman, a committee being formed of Messrs. T. C. H. Brown, Maxwell Thom, W. Johnstone, It. Anderson and F. Davidson.
Sales and Service Manager Available.
We know of a sales and service manager who has had a most extensive experience with several makes of commercial vehicle, and who has a very valuable connection in the London area. He holds excellent credentials and is leaving his present position only as a result of a policy of economy. Letters should be addressed to "Service," c/o the Editor.
Developing the Ford Estate.
The Ford Motor Co., Ltd., is developing its site of some 600 acres at Dagenham, Essex, as an industrial centre, and a booklet which the company has recently issued gives full details of the project. Features of the site and the advantages which it offers are cleaTly set out, whilst pictures and maps give a good indication of the development that has already taken place at the site.
