But, beware, this seemingly innocuous seasonal pursuit has Its hazards. An Irish judge warned last month of the dangers of ride-on lawnmowers on steep slopes.
Circuit court
president Mr Justice Esmond Smyth found that Fingal County Council had been negligent in not drawing employees' attention to manufacturers' warnings.
Patrick McBride was awarded 110,000 damages against the council for injuries to his foot and lower back. These were sustained when McBride fell off the mower on a slope and rolled down the hill with the machine hot on his heels.
